one of the singles that ended up landing on this, “latency,” was my most listened to track of 2025. that thang is so addicting

for the album overall, it’s an interesting listen. you could even say “i am” quite perplexed (ahhahahaha get it hahahaha).

I’ve played it so many times front-to-back but I still don’t really have a strong opinion—which is strange from me for a project somewhat framed as autobiographical. usually when i see a title like this i start rubbing my hands together like a fly bc i know I’m boutta get some depth or a primarily vulnerable subject matter. instead, “i am” taps the surface with refined craft.

I love a lot, like some, and still find myself playing the least favs. compared to her previous album, lexa here sounds more jaded—by both her observations from being an artist and certain relationships. the sound is also more expensive and glossy, putting her in a place not too far from radio eligibility—straying even farther from the lo-fi, bedroom approach of “universe wrapped in flesh.”

I think my lukewarm-but-still-mostly-positive-ness towards the album is because of the sequencing and track selection. there’s so much dope music here, but i don’t feel like it all fits. even the singles i’ve played so much feel weird in the overall. this—combined with its more polished aspects, makes it lose some of the soul i usually prize.

nonetheless, it’s still her. the tracks that feel awkward in placement still bang, so it’s nice when they pop-up in a playlist.
