got me feelin like
when I first discovered this album it had me so confused. every track feels improvised and discombobulated, like an impromptu riffing session from front to back. but like, it works. It’s dope.
the production has notes of madlib and dilla throughout—druggy jazz syncopations and odd, ODD samples throughout. Then on top of these beats we have liv.e spouting low-brow poetry on pleasure, pain, and various different introspections. her brand of soul has notes of erykah badu, d’angelo, and sometimes jill scott—which all together gives the project a “black mystical” feel. like in “moving on felt great and this feels (good) too” I just picture her transforming into a genie, floating around the space, whispering sweet somethings.
I think the strongest tracks shine quite bright due to offering a good balance of cohesion and chaos. While the weaker tracks I’d attribute to looser—underbaked compositions. All-together, super fun listen!
