Dinner Party is like the avengers of modern jazz! Huge names with huge contributions in last 2 decades. kamasi washington, robert glasper, terrace martin, and a beloved favorite on the beatmaking front, 9th wonder.

they've come together again with, strangely enough, a collection of gentle and groovy tracks. It feels almost out of character considering their individual works that are known for constantly pushing conventions. This time, it feels like they were just hanging out making nice tidy grooves—relaxed jazz avengers letting rhythms play-out instead of making that high energy technical subversion fans are frothing at the mouth for. (me, i'm the frother in question. guilty.)

Under the pretense of arriving late to the cookout, "stop being late" welcomes you to the party that's already been goin. after this, tracks weave together in a laid-back fashion as your cortisol levels out from the grilling you got in the first track.

Overall, it's a nice listen soaked in swag. It sounds like blackness, generosity, and a lil mysticality.
