found out about this album by meeting the artist at a hot pot spot
definitely a hidden gem. mount morriah blends his faith and an obvious love for music into a personal gospel. there's r&b, soul, folk, indie, bedroom pop, and even full electronic passages—subverting the sound you'd expect from a spiritual record.
"rescue me" is a highlight that features layered vocals and chops, along with a refrain that sounds like it was sung towards the sky. the title track is another favorite due to its stripped back and personable feel amongst a tracklist of experimentation. there's a strong glimmer of who and where the artist was at recording!
much of the project ends before the 3 minute mark, leaving more to be desired from tracks that seem to have just got going and were cut short. still, it's a listen that excites for where the music will go, so i'm hoping heaaaavy for another release.
